Have you ever been offended by the statements or actions of someone before? Well, I have, times without number! That was, of course, before discovering these 2 simple but highly significant ways of ignoring offences, that I hope to share with you in this article.
First of all, what are offences? Offences are the hurts that we literally pick up when people wrong us in any way. Are these normal? Yes, offenses are normal. They will come, whether you desire them or not. Even the Bible confirms this. However, you and I have a responsibility to ignore offenses when they come and live above them. Outlined below, therefore, are 2 simple but highly significant ways to ignore offences.
1. Build your self-confidence: People with low self-esteem (or self-confidence) easily get offended or irritated at the slightest things. This is why building a strong self-confidence is necessary and not an option for anybody and everybody. A strong self-confidence will reduce your tendency of being offended at people. A poor, wretched man, for instance, often believes that everyone is against him (even though this may never be true).
2. Be in charge of your life: Napoleon Hill said and I quote: "Your state of mind is everything. And you alone control your state of mind." The truth in that quote is that we are in total control of our lives, offenses that come our way notwithstanding. You have the power and choice to accept the rubbish of offenses that people will often throw at you from time to time or to reject and shake them off you. Believe me, it’s just the choice you make!
Let me ask you this question: How was your reaction the last time someone or something attempted to "get you mad?" You probably flared up. Didn’t you? During that experience, would you say that someone or something made you feel the way you felt or that you chose to feel the way you felt? Well, if I could help you: you made the choice, of course. Think about that! No one really has control over your state of mind except you! No one, in the real sense, can make you “mad”! I admit that people, places, and things can influence us but that is only if we allow ourselves to be influenced. This is one truth I want you to believe: you have the power to choose to be offended or not to be offended by people.
Therefore, I challenge you from now on: stop giving your power away to offenses! Be in charge of your life! Don't get mad, happy, sad, excited or otherwise because "someone caused it". Just realize that it's your choice and if you want, you can choose otherwise. So, stay above offences! It’s the best way to live!
